Further information

About this work: Created in oil pastel using a sgraffito technique, akin to excavating the body. This work was created following the artist’s fellowship at the British School at Rome, Italy, and in response to confrontation with illness. It references anatomical collections and ancient statues with broken gestures, and reflects on ideas of bodily interiority.

Sharon Kelly is a member of the Royal Ulster Academy, and the recipient of many prestigious awards. Kelly works across 2 and 3D processes. She is concerned with the body, with marking and mapping both the physical and psychological, exploring themes of fragility, resilience, liminality and transformation.
